DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - Showing God’s love as a tangible gift for children in over 100 countries is exactly what Operation Christmas Child does. Helping out is as simple as this—

“You start with a shoe box it can be a regular shoe box you have at home or you can order a plastic shoe box at home or a cardboard shoe box like these you see on the table,” said Shelley Bartlett – Area Drop-off Coordinator. Large Storage Boxes

Shoe boxes can be filled with items like school supplies or even hygiene items like toothbrushes, soap and washcloths.

“Of course you want to put something fun in there that the kids are going to want to enjoy a wow gift something they will get excited about when they open it up and see a stuffed animal or soccer ball or something like that,” said Bartlett.

If you cannot make it to the store you can even build a shoebox online here. Just pick your gender, the age range and add the items you would like to fill your box with.

For many of these children these boxes mean everything.

“Well there are a lot of children all over the world where many of those children are living in poverty and they are living in conditions with war all around them and some of them have never received a gift of any kind at all and this is the first time they are going to receive a gift,” said Bartlett.

Operation Christmas Child will be holding a fundraiser Monday October 26th. The event will be at Axtion Air, 50 percent of admissions will go back to Operation Christmas Child.

Shoebox drop off begins November 16th and runs till November 23rd.
